A 12 km paddle down-stream starting at the Cambridge Riverside Reserve, on the Domain Avenue, this scenic trip down the Mighty Waikato River, follows along the old Paddle Steamer Route to the narrows bridge at Tamahere. Besides beautiful scenic views this relaxing trip offers a chance to learn about some of the unique history of this part of the Waikato River as well as the opportunity to gain a different perspective of the Waikato area.
This trip is fully guided so it is perfect for the inexperienced paddler. All equipment is provided and we can shuttle drivers back to cars in Cambridge. It is however recommended to leave a vehicle at the narrows boat ramp.
For those wanting to make a full day of it, the full 23km paddle from Cambridge to Hamilton is also available. While this may seem like a long way, with the help of the Waikato River current, and the use of our fast sea kayak doubles, this trip is achievable for most fitness levels. The trip offers stunning views of the Waikato River and several great places to stop and stretch the legs or enjoy a picnic lunch. This is a great trip for a family or group of friends wanting to get out and experience something different.
